A servant of Hades called into servitude

By a string of events of mere will

His macabre creativity tested

And trusted to draw no blood when taking lives

With his noose a lethal crown of the shoulder

His difference is observed at the gallows

His platform is the gallows indeed

His microphone the one-breathing pendulum

This prepares his table before him,

A table shared with Hades and Cerberus

Uneasy lies his being when he sees a cord

Which is the spine of his existence

His finished art angling idly like a long bag on a woman’s arm

The pendulum dripping, now incontinent

Two men started the journey

But one walks away from the destination

The other reaches, carried away to be hidden forever

Never to journey again.

  1. Best piece I have read so far in this forum…
Hangmen are soulless creatures (They are not to be called humans because their DNAs are embedded with inhumanity).
The nature of their art sniffs life out of their conscience so the temperature of their hearts falls down to 0° Celsius.
As a political analyst, I could say that this epic piece can be compatibly related to the Nigerian political elites and government…

They are the hangmen that have orchestrated the death of the development of the once blessed land…
Their policies are the noose which holds firmly on the necks of the poor masses,
The Tribalism they inject into politics serve as the lever which the hangmen release for the victims to kiss immortality.

The saddest part of the piece is captured on Lines 15-19.

    “Two men started the journey
But one walks away from the destination
The other reaches, carried away to be hidden forever
    Never to journey again.”
